Students who are eligible can take a grading exam in early June. Grading is an important part of making progress for you and your dojo.
We run grading under the rule of the Japan Karate Federation as well as Kamitsuma Oku Karate-Do Academy (KOKA). We use the most common guideline to measure the level of an applicant. Our Grading happens twice a year.
During the assessment, the student is filmed. Sensei Masumi Sato assesses most of the grading and a senior teacher of KOKA authorises the fair assessment.
You are required to:
- Wear a karate suit and belt correctly
- Have trained at least 35 hours or 24 lessons within a year.
- Be able to demonstrate the basic routine and kata.
- Be able to demonstrate kumite 1-2min.
- Be able to demonstrate your karate knowledge test (Recognising the names of stances, punches, kicks and blocks)
Pink Slip / Invitation is going to be sent to students only with the above criteria.
Only those with pink slips are allowed to take the grading exam. You will be awarded with a new grade once you have successfully passed the exams of KOKA. For more information, please read the karate-grading syllabus.
